At the Institute of Telecommunications, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia TIMS has been used since 2004. Mainly to support lectures and seminars of courses on: digital, mobile and optical communications. Personally I perceive the greatest added value of TIMS in the fact that it is a modelling system (not a simulator) working with real signals. Technical realisation of 100kHz TIMS carrier frequency does not lesser its value since the principal nature of processes taking place during the communication are not frequency dependant (from this point of view: e.g. principle of QPSK modulation used in modern mobile communication systems operating at GHz frequency band can be shown using 100kHz carrier as well without losing its value). Further, TIMS enables to reveal to students that very often a complex theory can be described using simple and easily understood signals. This fact greatly helps students to bridge the lectured theory and observed practice . Working with TIMS motivated me to create and write number of interesting experiments documented on materials supplied with TIMS.
